Paper Trading Simulator Guide
What Is Paper Trading?
Paper trading is simulated stock trading that uses virtual money instead of real capital. Our Paper Trading Simulator provides a realistic trading environment where you can practice everything you learn in the curriculum without risking a single dollar. It is available to Pro plan and Live Trading Desk members.
How the Simulator Works
When you open the simulator, you are given a virtual account with a starting balance. The simulator uses real-time or slightly delayed market data, so the prices and charts you see reflect actual market conditions. You can:
- Place market, limit, and stop-loss orders
- Buy and sell stocks across major U.S. exchanges
- Track your positions, profit/loss, and portfolio performance
- Use the same charting tools and indicators taught in the curriculum
- Review your complete trade history with entry/exit prices and timestamps
Why Paper Trading Matters
There is a significant difference between understanding a concept intellectually and applying it in real time. Paper trading bridges that gap. It allows you to:
- Practice identifying setups from the curriculum in live market conditions
- Build muscle memory for placing orders and managing positions
- Test your risk management strategies without consequences
- Develop the emotional discipline needed for real trading
How Much Paper Trading Should I Do?
We recommend spending a minimum of 2-3 weeks in the Paper Trading Simulator before attempting the Trading Challenge. Focus on consistency rather than large gains. If you can demonstrate a steady, positive performance over a multi-week period while following your trading plan, you are likely ready for the challenge.
Pro Tip: Treat paper trading as if it were real money. The habits you build in the simulator will carry over directly into the Trading Challenge. If you take paper trading casually, you will likely carry those casual habits into the challenge as well.
Accessing the Simulator
Navigate to Paper Trading in your sidebar menu. If you are on the Starter plan, you will see a prompt to upgrade to Pro or apply for the Live Trading Desk to unlock simulator access. Once unlocked, the simulator is available 24/7 during market hours.
